A Modern Aquatic Center for All of Decatur
Join neighbors, swimmers, and community leaders in supporting a new aquatic center that serves everyone, from learn-to-swim programs to senior fitness, competitive swim meets to family fun.
The Need is Clear
Decatur’s Parks and Recreation Master Plan (Recreatur) identified aquatic facilities as one of the city’s most pressing unmet needs. Community surveys ranked indoor and outdoor pools among the highest-demand amenities, yet existing facilities are limited, outdated, and too small to serve the whole community.
Right now, Decatur has a handful of neighborhood pools, but a collection of small pools does not add up to a true community aquatic center. Residents of all ages and interests—whether learning to swim, staying active, recovering from injury, or competing in athletics—must often travel outside the city to find programs that meet their needs.
A new aquatic center would directly respond by:
Providing water safety education for every child
Offering year-round swim programs for all ages
Supporting senior fitness and rehabilitation
Creating local jobs and hosting regional swim meets
Ensuring accessibility for every resident
Investing in a modern aquatic center means giving Decatur a single, comprehensive facility that serves children, teens, adults, and older residents alike.
A Place for Everyone
A new aquatic center would serve the whole city. Swimmers would have year-round access to lessons, lap lanes, and team programs. Non-swimmers would benefit too, with safe spaces for therapy, fitness, and community events. Parents, grandparents, and friends could gather to watch activities or simply enjoy the facility as a neighborhood hub.
Hotels and local businesses would gain from visitors attending meets and tournaments, helping keep Decatur vibrant. The value extends well beyond the pool itself. It’s a practical investment that supports health, recreation, and community life across every part of Decatur.
The Moment is Here
Decatur residents have made it clear that aquatics is a top priority. Surveys and planning studies show strong support for a modern facility, and the upcoming City Commission race this November will help shape whether that vision moves forward.
This is the right moment to align community support with city leadership and take the next step toward a true aquatic center.
